Natural Coir Harvesters

What is

Coco Peat?

Coconut coir, commonly known as coir is a natural fiber sourced from the husk of coconuts. This versatile material is extensively used, especially in horticulture and gardening. The fibers are derived from the outer husk, situated between the hard inner shell and the outer coat of the coconut. To extract coir, the husks are soaked in water to loosen the fibers, which are then mechanically extracted.

Our Values

Founded by three visionary leaders, CoCo Coir Harvest takes pride in producing high-quality coconut coir agro products.

With over 20 manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka and India, we adhere to strict eco-friendly standards throughout the entire product lifecycle.

Main Applications of Coco Coir Agro Products

Sustainability
As a byproduct of the coconut industry, coir is environmentally friendly. Its use helps reduce waste and makes effective use of a resource that might otherwise be discarded.
Water Retention and Drainage
Coir excels in water retention while also providing excellent drainage. This combination makes it an ideal component for potting mixes and plant-growing mediums.
Aeration
Coir enhances aeration for plant roots, promoting a healthy root system. It prevents soil compaction and allows for better air and water movement within the growing medium.
pH Neutral
Generally pH neutral, coconut coir serves as a suitable base for various soil mixes. Its pH can be easily adjusted to meet the specific needs of different plants.
Resistance to Decay and Pests
Coir is durable and long-lasting due to its resistance to decay and fungal growth. It is also naturally resistant to pests and diseases.

How is Coco Coir Made

Harvesting Coconuts

Coconut coir comes from the fibrous outer layer of the coconut husk, which surrounds the hard inner shell. These coconuts are harvested from coconut palm trees.

Removal of the Husk

The outer husk is separated from the coconut either manually or mechanically. This husk is the part of the coconut used to produce coir.

Soaking of the Husk

The husks are soaked in water for several months to soften the fibers, making it easier to extract them from the husk

Extraction of the Coir Fiber

After soaking, the husks are either beaten or mechanically processed to separate the coir fibers. This is done using machines that crush and comb the fibers from the husk.

Cleaning & Drying

The extracted coir fibers are cleaned to remove residual impurities or unwanted materials. They are then dried, either by sun exposure or through mechanical drying methods.

Bailing & Packaging

After the coir fibers are cleaned and dried, they are typically baled into compact bundles for easier transportation and storage. The final product is then packaged and shipped to various industries for use.
